Cheap Grace?...Jhn 1:17

Jhn 1:17
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Before I received Christ as my Saviour, grace to me was about getting 'grace' period for free car parking or avoiding paying of penalties. 'Grace' was always associate with payment and penalty. Even after accepting Christ as my Saviour, grace of God was still not very clear to me, probably because it was not frequently spoken of. When it was spoken of, grace of God was referred to as a doctrine or a topic of discussion, it was never personal.

Things changed after I was told that grace of God is not simply a doctrine or topic of discussion, but the grace of God came and live in us through Christ (Jhn 1:17)!

When God gave the Ten Commandments to man, it was given indirectly (impersonally) through the hands of a mortal man, Moses. But Christ came personally as the Grace and Love of God, so that the grace and love of God can be in our lives when we accept Christ as our Saviour.

The grace of God, though can be received freely by man, cost God His only begotten Son! It is neither cheap nor expensive, it's priceless! The Grace of God, personified by Jesus, is bigger and powerful than any finite human mind can fathom or imagine.

While law can't even touch the rich young ruler to give anything to the poor (Luke 18), grace empowered Zacchaeus, the tax collector, to give bountifully to the poor (Luke 19)!

Brethren, guard your hearts from self-righteous lies that grace is not enough and has to be supplemented by our righteous and holy living, like a roaring lion, seeking whom it may be devour (1 Pe 5:8)!
